A noun or pronoun that comes after a preposition is called the object of the preposition.<br \/>\nBelow there are some of the most common prepositions, their meanings and examples on each one of them:<\/p>\n<p>1- About<br \/>\na. On the subject of<br \/>\nThis is a story about elephants<br \/>\nTell me about yourself<br \/>\nb. Approximately<br \/>\nHe is about ten years old<br \/>\nThe store is about 1 kilometer away<\/p>\n<p>2- Above<br \/>\nHigher than; over<br \/>\nThe plane flew above the clouds<br \/>\nI didn\u2019t see it above me<\/p>\n<p>3- Across<br \/>\na. From one side to the other<br \/>\nWe walked across the field<br \/>\nThey went across the river<br \/>\nb. On the other side of<br \/>\nThere is a store across the street<br \/>\nBe careful of the cars across the road<\/p>\n<p>4- After<br \/>\na. Later in time<br \/>\nafter ten o\u2019clock; after lunch<br \/>\nb. In pursuit of<br \/>\nThe dog ran after the cat, I went after her out of the room<\/p>\n<p>5- Against<br \/>\na. In opposition to<br \/>\nTheft is against the law<br \/>\nDon\u2019t go against my ideas all the time<br \/>\nb.
