It may be used to express:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>general truths;<\/li>\n<li>a habitual action;<\/li>\n<li>an occurrence in the future;<\/li>\n<li>commands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The simple present tense is <strong>NOT<\/strong> used to express action that is happening now. We use present continuous for that.<\/p>\n<p>We form the present simple by using: <strong>\u2013<\/strong> <strong>Subject<\/strong> <strong>+<\/strong> <strong>Infinitive or Third Person + Infinitive + (s). <\/strong>For the person infinitives we add:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>-s to regular verbs (He thinks).<\/li>\n<li>-es to verbs ending by -s, -sh, -ch (She mixes).<\/li>\n<li>-ies to verbs ending with -y (Mark carries).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a look at some examples:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table width=\"605\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"216\">First person<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">Third person<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">Notes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"216\">The world is round<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">this is a general truth<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"216\">I drink coffee every morning<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">He drinks coffee every morning<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">this is a habitual action<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"216\">I\u2019ll see you soon<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">She\u2019ll see you soon<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">this is talking about the future<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"216\">Walk down and to the left<\/td>\n<td width=\"194\"><\/td>\n<td width=\"194\">this is a command<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can ask questions with the simple present tense using the following formulae:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cDo\u201d for I, you, we and they. For example: What do you do?<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDoes\u201d for he, she and it. For example: What does she do?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can add \u201cnot\u201d after \u201cdo\u201d and \u201cdoes\u201d to create a negative sentence. For example: I do not read books, she does not read books.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s do some exercises with what we have learned already.
